The Humphrey® Sewage Treatment System

Type II Marine Sanitation Devices

Model 10C

It’s all about the choices…

Smart choices produce advantages.

Every engineer appreciates that design is a process of choices. For some, choices mean tradeoffs-a little more strength, but added weight. As you look at some of the choices made in the design of The HUMPHREY®, consider how each choice saves money for you:

Flexible

Workable

Lightweight

Non-Corrosive

Cost-Effective

Customer Friendly

Continuous refinement

All Humphrey® Sewage Treatment Systems start with field-proven technologies.

The product that will serve you is the result of continuous upgrading and refinement. We will be eager to hear how The Humphrey is performing in your particular environment. It is by listening to customers like you that we have developed and refined a user-friendly model line fully prepared to meet water quality requirements in the 21st Century.

Model 10A

How it works

Sewage flows from the head(s) directly into the Primary digester (D1), a Secondary digester (D2), and a Filter (F1). As the sewage makes its way through a series of baffles in each digester, it is broken down and dissolved by natural bacterial action. The resulting effluent is then pumped through the filter when the float switch in the final compartment of the secondary digester is activated. Here the effluent is further purified and deodorized before passing through the disinfecting system, where final purification takes place. Periodically, a biodegradable activator is introduced into the head. Humphrey Activator consists of a yeast compound to stimulate bacteria growth and an enzyme compound to liquefy solids. Activated carbon filters may be washed, reused, and eventually replaced after service life has expired.

An optional control panel and autofeeder are available to monitor the system and replenish activator when necessary. The autofeeder mounts easily in the vent piping of the primary digestor. It automatically dispenses activator in the proper intervals to ensure the system will keep operating efficiently. Shipboard power is used with the autofeeder.

The Humphrey® Type II MSD’s are fully certified by the USCG and are IMO* approved. Each Humphrey unit exceeds the effluent standard set by Pollution Act Federal Water (33 CFR 159) and carries our Certification Number – to ensure absolute compliance with Federal laws. Because of the possibility of future changes in the law, The Humphrey® is designed to yield effluent actually higher in quality than currently required by the USCG.

The Model 12, designed for use by camp and small boat owners, was never submitted for IMO approval.
